The Woods

The Woods

At MBV Antik & Déco, we work with a careful selection of wood species, each chosen for its aesthetic and mechanical qualities, whether for manufacturing new pieces or restoring antique furniture.

Species Used

🌳 Oak

A noble wood par excellence, oak is renowned for its robustness and longevity. Its pronounced grain and warm hue make it a choice material for characterful furniture and pieces in rustic or contemporary styles.

🌲 Beech

A dense and homogeneous wood, beech offers a smooth surface ideal for meticulous finishes. It is particularly appreciated for seating and furniture structures.

🍎 Applewood

A rare and precious fruitwood, applewood is distinguished by its pinkish reflections and fine grain. It is used for decorative pieces or refined accent elements.

🍐 Pearwood

Highly prized in fine cabinetry, pearwood has a pinkish to golden hue and a very tight grain. It is perfectly suited for marquetry and carved details.

🌲 Fir

Light and easy to work with, fir is often used for internal structures or country-style pieces. Its light color and characteristic knots give it an authentic charm.

🌲 Pine

A resinous wood with visible grain and a blonde hue, pine is appreciated for its natural and warm appearance. It is commonly used in Provençal or Scandinavian style furniture.

🌴 Exotic Woods

We occasionally work with exotic species selected for their exceptional qualities: rich hues, unique grains, and remarkable durability. Each piece of exotic wood is a singular work.

🌰 Walnut

An exceptional wood with fine grain and a chocolate brown hue, walnut is synonymous with elegance and refinement. It is ideal for Louis XV or Art Deco style furniture.

🌿 Poplar

A light and soft wood, poplar is often used for drawer bottoms, furniture backs, or secondary pieces. Its light and uniform color makes it a discreet and functional support.

Finishes

🕯️ Natural Wax

Natural wax nourishes and protects the wood while preserving its matte and authentic appearance. It highlights the veins and natural warmth of the wood, allowing the material to breathe.

🔥 Singeing

Singeing is a traditional technique that involves lightly burning the surface of the wood to reveal its fibers and accentuate the grain. This finish gives pieces a rustic look and unique visual depth.

🍯 Shellac

A natural resin of animal origin, shellac offers a shiny and protective finish with golden reflections. Used for centuries in cabinetry, it brings a touch of nobility and brilliance to restored pieces.
